Finished Furniture!

Image
We did a lot of unnecessary sanding because we had some trouble fitting pieces together. If we are rebuilding this, I think we would fit them first to see if the fitting is correctly cut, then sand them after.

06 Weekly Updated 04

We started cutting and sanding this week.  We finished cutting and sanding the chair part on Thursday. Here are some photos I took when working today.

06) Weekly Update 03

Image
Last week, some test cuts are being made with the CNC machine after Friday's class.  Our chair group discussed possible ways to fit the chair. Our bigger group also decided to simplify the design slightly.  Jess also bought some spray paints and our group is paying for them together.  (photo credit: Daniela) We chose the chair designed by Nadia, and it was being finished this week. We will be building the chair this week. Because we bought some paints, we will also be painting them.

06) Weekly Update 02

I am a part of the building team and I am also in charge of photographing and documenting the physical piece. This week our group met on teams to discuss the process and the designs.  I also did some research on possible ways to connect our physical piece because Bryan suggested that it was important for our pieces to be able to construct and deconstruct as AUArts has many small doors.  The designs that our group made can be found in their blog post.  Here are some ways: Ways to connect wood when building furniture to better construct and deconstruct     https://www.dreamstime.com/types-wood-joints-joinery-industrial-vector-illustration-image132262881   https://www.homedepot.com/c/ah/how-to-make-wood-joints/9ba683603be9fa5395fab9017c276c18   There are detailed descriptions of different joints in this Home Depot blog post. I think for our purpose, the best one might be a Dovetail Joint or a Box Joint, because of the tight fit and that it can deconstruct...

05. Physical scale

Image
I totally forgot to upload these pictures... process printing... laser cutting... Attaching... Result they were a bit hard to attach due to the tightness. I think printing test prints are really important like Bryan was suggesting in critique.  Making a mold for the "wave" and casting it in resin is also a smart suggestion!
