TITLE AND BACKGROUND STATEMENT

a.) What is the title of this project/object?

Seescape

Because the seat is a depiction of the sea and people will be sitting on it to see the sea (😂)

b.) Background information

1.) What inspired this design? Nature? Creative works by other artists/designers?

This piece is inspired by nature: ocean and mountains. This is an abstract depiction of the sea and

mountain. The mountain texture is inspired by parametric design.

2.) What sets this object apart from typical furniture or sculptural work?

The contrast between the smoothness of the waves and the structure of the mountain

3.) If a function object (i.e. furniture) what is the function?

This is a chair

4.) What is the intended location / Who is the intended audience for this object?

Outside in nature, example

IV.) Animation

A problem that I ran into:
The preview of the blue seat in grasshopper and the jpeg that I got using the capture screen command is different from the render look in rhino. The render in rhino is much darker than the other two. I had a hard time trying to match them.

  2. A beautiful seat to enjoy a beautiful view. I really enjoy the concept. And the bench height varies around the edge for different sized people. Very nice.

  3. I love the combination of the see-through bench and the wood centre. It reminds me of a cityscape surrounded by water.

  4. The animation of both the seat and the back are so beautiful, and the idea of making the seat itself as a see-through material instead of making the entire piece out of wood was a really smart choice because it further added onto the concept that you were going for!

  5. Love this title and design so much! The contrast between the mountain and sea curves is a very strong visual relationship there is a super interesting repetition of form going on there. I would love to see the seat casted in resin so it could be transparent but multicoloured with different blues and greens like the ocean. Beautiful piece!

  6. Looks really cool. love the mountains and sea design. Since this would sit outside you might want to consider how its gonna drain water from the seats because it looks like some of the waves would definitely make their own "seas" and people don't like to sit in puddles so it might not get used as much. Otherwise cool design.

    1. Lmao! You are absolutely right! I should consider making the waves lower on the outside, or maybe drill some little hole on the waves that are lower? Definitely something I should consider~ Thank you!

    2. Yes, Chloe makes great point! And Yuxin, your idea to include holes is a good fix as well. If you ever wish to revise this model, I would consider incorporating the holes into your definition. You could perhaps make a decorative pattern for the holes so that it looks like an intentional and aesthetic part of your design. I'm very interesting in seeing your scale model, especially with the undulating wave :)

By the way, your animation of the clear section is awesome -- it moves like a wave!
